Until the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy, I still routinely check medicine every month, and every time to check the content of each examination using Ultrasonography (USG) device was also performed. Many people say if too often to do the examination with USG is not good for the womb or the fetus, but when they were asked back why? the answer is always just does not make me happy, whether scientific or not they said it also knew of others who are not necessarily the truth.
Actually what is Ultrasonography device, and it is dangerous for the womb or the fetus? Well, here is the answer to my gynecologist who quoted from various sources.
Ultrasonography (USG) is a procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to describe the abdominal and pelvic cavity, creating a picture (sonogram) of the baby and placenta. Although the terms ultrasound and sonogram are technically different, these terms are used interchangeably and refer to the same thing.
According to dr. Fakriantini Jaya Putri, S,POG, from the Zahirah Hospital, Jagakarsa, USG need for prenatal care. Because, through the ultrasound doctor important information needed to provide optimal care. Ultrasounds allow doctors to ascertain whether the fetus to develop normally or are there potential problems.
The types of equipment Ultra-sonography
Basically there are seven ultrasounds are known, however, the main process remains the same.
Transvaginal, A specially designed tool used in the vagina to produce a sonogram image. Most commonly used in early pregnancy.
Standard, Ultrasounds are common to generate two-dimensional image of the developing fetus. 2D ultrasound can only see the baby from salh one side only.
Advanced, This test is similar to a standard ultrasound, but this test is intended to examine the problem and uses more sophisticated equipment.
Doppler, Pencintraan procedure is measuring changes in the frequency of ultrasound waves as they bounce off moving objects, such as blood cells.
3-Dimensional, Performed using specially designed probes and software to produce three-dimensional image of the developing fetus. The fetus can be seen intact and clear, like a real baby.
3-D dynamic or 4-Dimensional, Performed with a specially designed scanner to see the faces and movements of the baby before birth. All the following baby’s body movements as we watch an animated movie can be seen.
Echokardiografi, Using ultra sound waves to determine the baby’s heart function and anatomy. This is used to help the alleged examination of congenital heart defects.
When do we need to perform an ultrasound examination?
Ultrasounds can be done anytime during pregnancy. The result can be immediately viewed on screen during this test done. “There are no specific recommendations regarding both the number of ultrasounds in the first trimester, second and third. But there is also an ultrasound every seven weeks. Some are doing this test early in pregnancy between 6 to 10 weeks and again at age 20 weeks. Additional ultrasounds will be done separately if there are suspected problems associated with pregnancy, “the doctor reviewed this travel enthusiasts.
Basically, the ultrasound can be done anytime during pregnancy. Because ultrasound is not hazardous to the fetus and also for the mother. Ultrasound is mainly done when there are problems with pregnancy such as the fetal heart rate irregular.
Ultrasound has no side effects
Expressed also by an alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University, the actual ultrasound does not affect the safety of mother and fetus. So there is no limit to the ultrasound frequency. No side effects of ultrasound examination because the device does not use X-ray but uses sound waves.
“But in Europe the use of ultrasound is only done once in the second trimester. It’s just that our society is not satisfied when the control to an obstetrician is not all doing the ultrasound. Actually it’s not her ultrasound, but the consultation, especially with a competent physician,” beber Fakriantini dr.
Important to note that not all doctors, including specialists dookter gynecologic ultrasound mastered this subject, especially in addition to 2D ultrasound. Doctors who perform an ultrasound should have a certification issued by certain agencies, such POSKI (Indonesian Society of Ultrasound Medicine.)
